Melbourne Food & Wine Festival

The Melbourne Food & Wine Festival starts this Friday, March 4 and continues right through the week and following weekend. There is nothing quite like this anywhere else on the planet! It spills throughout the city - with huge tables filling laneways and parks. There are 'World's longest lunches', with tables spanning streets, lanes gardens, and even a trestle bridge!

Moomba Waterfest

From March 11-14, there is Moomba Waterfest. This is a Melbourne icon - a free huge, vibrant community festival held around Yarra. It celebrates Melbourne’s colourful and harmonious multicultural diversity and is a wonderful opportunity for a great family day by the banks of the Yarra. It is particularly loved by kids.

Highlights are the Moomba Parade, on Monday, 11am, and the Birdman Rally, Sunday noon. It is organised by the city of Melbourne.

Melbourne Fashion Festival

The Melbourne Fashion Festival, March 14-20, is an annual celebration of fashion, design, business events and creative endeavours a week & parties - Australia's largest fashion event.

Brunswick Music Festival

The Brunswick Music Festival is one of the loved and celebrated Melbourne music festivals, from March 16-27. Definitely an insider’s tip, showcasing ethnic, indigenous, acoustic and traditional local and international music!

A highlight is the renowned Sydney Road Street Party, with a large section of Sydney Road filled with stages, stalls and sounds. This Sunday afternoon!

CERES Harvest Fete

The CERES Harvest Fete is on Saturday, March 19 - with chook tours, a cake competition, Merri Harvest Dinner, seedling sales, gardening workshops, second-hand stuff, kids craft activities, a Harvest Parade, Low Carbon Technologies, Art Installations, Music, as well as an Organic Market, Shop, Cafe and Nursery.

Formula 1 Grand Prix

Evoking strong emotions - loved by racing fans, tolerated by some, but loathed by others, the Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix is on again from March 24-27 – filling the neighbouring suburbs with the roar of fast cars… A racing extravaganza around Albert Park Lake!

AFL Football season

And for many, the long awaited AFL Football season begins with the first round on the weekend of March 24-17! This year there are 17 teams from around Australia, qualifying for the Grand Final in September. AFL is the most visited and celebrated sport in Melbourne.

Melbourne International Comedy Festival

The Melbourne International Comedy Festival starts at the end of March and continues through most of April. It is one of the three largest comedy festivals in the world, alongside similar events in Edinburgh and Montreal with an enormous program of stand-up comedy, cabaret, theatre, street performance, film, television, radio and visual arts!


Definitely no shortage of things to do in Melbourne in Autumn - the festival season for Melbourne!
