It is February in Melbourne. This is the month when the city gets going again and gears up to a long array of festivals and events. Insiders Melbourne provides you with interesting insider tips, what’s on in Melbourne, news, updates…

Melbourne Flood Relief Event

As we are still going though a season of floods and rain with many flood affected Australians needing to get back on their feet, there will be a Flood Relief Event on February 20 at FOG – Greville Street in Prahran. For $50 you will receive food, drinks, auction on products, Dannii Miogue – all proceed donated to flood appeals.

St Kilda Festival

The St Kilda Festival, held form February 5-13 is one of Melbourne's best known street festivals with an indigenous day and more than 100 bands playing throughout the week. It also includes visual arts – the Linden postcard show, theatre and film. It is held in the bars and venues of St Kilda and culminates on February 13 with free live music on a number of stages.

Melbourne Symphony Orchestra free concerts

Every February, at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl, you have the chance to listen to the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra for free. There are four concerts:
  • Wednesday, February 9, Mozart and Mahler
  • Saturday, February 12, Beethoven’s Fifth
  • Wednesday, February 16, Romeo and Juliet
  • Saturday, February 19, Made in Australia, a tribute to Percy Grainger and Nigel Westlake
Concerts start at 7pm. You get to sit in the open air – hopefully no longer raining, in the community atmosphere of the gardens. Great opportunity to enjoy a first class concert.

Riverboat Jazz Food and Wine Festival

This is a wonderful weekend, February 18-20, of jazz music, food and wine activities taking place on land and water in Echuca-Moama. The line-up includes James Morrison, Joe Camilleri and the Black Sorrows… and many more – a very special weekend indeed.

Movie Extra Tropfest

On Sunday, February 20, from 5pm at Federation Square you have the opportunity to be part of the Movie Extra Tropfest. This event is filmed live in Sydney, showing the winners, finalists and their films to audiences around Australia. Bring a cushion or a chair!

Superbike World Championships

Then for lovers of motor sport and fast action, there are the Superbike World Championships, February 25-27, in Phillip Island. This is also where you can race along the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit Go Kart Track – a replica of the Grand Prix circuit. You can also do the real thing, doing a triple Hot Lap alongside an experienced racing driver.
